Dancing Flame Medicine Lodge:
“A Gathering place”
www.headtothearttalks.com Vicky Kelm Williams established the Lodge in June, 2004. Vicky has spent over 30 years assisting individuals, families, groups and businesses. She holds a Masters in Counseling and Educational Specialist in Counseling Education, both from IU, Bloomington. After attending to the necessary “head” requirements for both degrees, she felt the “Call” to move to the mountains of NC. There is an ancient Tibetan Buddhist teaching, “When the student is ready, the Teacher will appear,” and, that is precisely what happened in the richness of the Smoky Mountains. You may have watched the movie, or read the book, “Tuesdays with Morrie,” which was originally titled, “An old man, a young man and Life’s greatest Lessons.” That is precisely what happened to Vicky, only her title would be, “Mondays with Rockingbear,” or “A Cherokee teacher, a middle-age woman and Life’s greatest Lessons.” After 7 years of Mondays, Vicky returned to Indiana a wiser, more simple human being. She spent 13 years apprenticing this Cherokee teacher as she learned the ways of his people, and brought those teachings and ceremonies to whomever was drawn to “Dancing Flame Medicine Lodge.” The magic of life that opened her Heart, continues to inspire her way of life. With her Head and Heart in “Right relationship,” she offers Seekers a simple and powerful way to live a life in harmony and balance. The first step is yours! Check out our website, attend a Wisdom circle, read a few blogs, or simply contact Vicky: [email protected]. As my teacher used to say, “Come and find out what you don’t know you don’t know!” |
Indiana Moon Lodge:
The Moon Lodge is a support group with community bonding activities that include recognizing and being in sync with what’s happening in the cycles of the natural world. We also learn together about and celebrate the different phases of a woman’s life (Maiden, Mother, Enchantress, Wise Woman). The moon phases and the seasons of the year echo this same pattern, and our meetings are an opportunity to connect with nature for personal development. The Moon Lodge is not a religious organization. The Moon Lodge group activities are meant to be a side companion to each person’s own personal religious practices. The focus is support, community, and unity in an atmosphere that is INTER-RELIGIOUS meaning people from all different religions are invited to come together to share in prayerful space, respecting each other’s way of prayer. When considering the gift that the Moon Lodge community is offering to the world, the words that come again and again are “Unity in Diversity”. The Moon Lodge is about unity, looking beyond our surface differences to the center core of love to create True Community. We offer a demonstration of what it looks like to live in authenticity and joy, celebrating our unique gifts. We offer a safe place where we can be seen, for only in this loving atmosphere can we unfurl our wings and discover who we truly are.
We are a women’s support group. In our activities, we focus on what brings people together, on what uplifts ourselves and the larger surrounding community. Again and again we come back to Unity in Diversity. THE MOON LODGE MISSION STATEMENT: Our mission is to cultivate a community within which women have the opportunity to nurture their own development of wellness and empowerment in every aspect of their lives. We do this through events and retreats that cultivate a culture of mutual support, through contact with nature as therapy, and through our additional wellness services. We believe that because women are at the heart of families and communities, as they live in joy, wellbeing, and power the whole world benefits. |
Studio Alchemy:
Studio Alchemy is not just an art classroom but a home where all are welcome. If you join our art community your art will never be judged here. We are here to have fun and grow, not to rate each other. People are drawn to painting because there is something important they are trying to express. If you love experimental self reflection this is the place for you.
Our beloved studio was built sometime before 1890 and is an Indiana Landmarks historic site. For many years the property was home to the Chapman family but after the 1980s it was uninhabited. Two members of the Chapman family died in the home. In 2003 ceramic artist, Mary Jane Moriarty, purchased the property, used the space as a pottery studio and renovated parts of the building and garden. Addie Hirschten first opened her artist studio in August of 2018 in a rented location then purchased the current building in 2019. It needed extensive work. There were holes in the floor and major support beams needed to be replaced. In the summer of 2019 the poet, Brad Severance, wrote a poem that had the lines, “We are one face, one heart- no mask shall come between us.” Addie added these lines to the large wooden beam at the center of the studio. When the Covid 19 pandemic started early the next year in 2020 the line “no mask shall come between us” found a new irony. Severance and Addie later collaborated to create new work for their “Poetry and Painting Projects.” STUDIO ALCHEMY MISSION STATEMENT: To share the healing power of the arts in a judgement free environment. To offer informative classes that respect the individual's own development and style. |
